District Saz

Experience the rich depth of the District Saz, a spirit-forward masterpiece that reimagines the classic Sazerac with a complex, smoky finish. This sophisticated sipper combines robust Virginia Rye whiskey from Catoctin Creek with sweet Benedictine and subtle birch bark syrup, offering layers of spice and subtle earthiness. It is then finished with an aromatic whisper of Laphroaig Scotch rinse, perfectly served in a Glencairn glass. This cocktail is a must-try for lovers of classic stirred cocktails.

Ingredients

  • 1.75 oz Catoctin Creek Rye
  • 0.25 oz Benedictine
  • 1 Teaspoon Birch Bark Syrup Laphroaig 10 Year Scotch (For Rinse)
  • Lemon Peel (For Garnish)

how to prepare

Prep: Gather all necessary ingredients, including the Catoctin Creek Rye, Benedictine, and Birch Bark Syrup, along with the Laphroaig 10 Year Scotch for the rinse and a fresh lemon peel. Add ice to a sturdy mixing glass and set aside.

Mix: Pour the Rye, Benedictine, and Birch Bark Syrup directly into the ice-filled mixing glass, ensuring the non-ice components are combined precisely for chilling.

Stir: Use a bar spoon to gently but deliberately stir the mixture until it is perfectly chilled and slightly diluted, ensuring a velvety texture.

Serve: Rinse a Glencairn glass by pouring a measure of Laphroaig 10 Year Scotch into it, swirling to coat the inside, and discarding the excess. Strain the stirred cocktail into the prepared glass.

Garnish: Take the lemon peel and express its essential oils over the cocktail’s surface before discarding the spent peel for an aromatic final touch.
