Blue Shepherd Spirits is a veteran and first responder-owned nano distillery located in Luray, Virginia, near Shenandoah National Park. Founded by a former Army medic and current Firefighter/Paramedic, the distillery’s mission is rooted in a passion for creating better, “funky and non-traditional spirits” in extremely small batches. The name is inspired by Bruce, a Blue German Shepherd with behavioral challenges the owners took in and rehabilitated.
Blue Shepherd operates a full in-house production using local grains and goods (like corn for their vodka and gin). They specialize in unique takes on classic spirits, such as a vodka that retains a hint of corn sweetness, and a New World Gin that drastically reduces juniper in favor of citrus and other botanicals. Their small, single barrel aging process (often using 10-gallon barrels) results in rapid aging and unique flavor profiles across their whiskey, rum, and agave spirit offerings.
