5 Mile Mountain Distillery is Floyd County, Virginia’s first legal distillery since Prohibition, founded to honor the region’s rich Appalachian moonshining history. Located on the mountain of the same name, the distillery prides itself on using old recipes and traditional “”old school”” techniques, including small-batch production with a 100% copper pot still from Caldwell Copper over an open flame.
They source their grain locally from Gracious Day Grain. While their lineup is anchored by authentic, high-proof corn whiskey (moonshine), they also produce aged and unaged rye whiskey and a bourbon. They aim for an authentic, high-quality product that captures the spirit and lore of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
