Virago Spirits is a craft distillery located in Richmond, Virginia’s Diamond District, founded by the three Haneberg brothers. The company’s philosophy is inspired by the Virago (a heroic woman of great strength, courage, determination, and integrity), which they aim to infuse into their products.
Their production philosophy blends a deep respect for traditional techniques with New World creativity. The spirits are distilled on a rare, vintage, direct-fire, 2,500-liter Charentais-style alembic still (a type famously used for Cognac). Virago focuses on “misunderstood and forgotten” spirits, specializing in complex Rum (often a blend of rums from four Caribbean “ports”) and sophisticated, unique Gin expressions.
