VA250 Cocktail: Cherry “Bounce” Bourbon Sour

George Washington himself was known to enjoy Cherry Bounce, a cordial closely tied to early American and Virginia distilling traditions. Inspired by that history, I created a bold, herbaceous, cherry-kissed bourbon sour that reimagines those classic flavors through a Virginia lens.

Featuring Reservoir Hunter & Scott Bourbon Whiskey, this cocktail layers fresh tarragon, cherry preserves, Meyer lemon juice, Bénédictine and a local honey-infused orgeat syrup to create depth, balance and richness. The cherry honors Washington’s beloved cordial, while the herbs and honey bring a sense of Virginia’s land and seasons into the glass.

As a Virginia distiller himself, Washington helped lay the foundation for the commonwealth’s spirits legacy. This cocktail is a tribute to that heritage — and a toast to the enduring craft he helped inspire. I like to think he’d approve of this libation.
